The Hub team linked with Arts Development
to set up a film project which would span
over a couple of months giving young people
the opportunity to develop a quality piece
of work.
The first week of the film project took place during the February half term. Young people associated with the hub team mixed with young people who are part of the Youth Theatre in Blackwood in workshops The workshops looked at, costume design, hair and makeup, continuity, location and enhancing drama skills. Together, all the young people created their own character.
The young people were then given the opportunity to choose which area they would like to specify in; acting, hair and makeup and costume design,
technical or continuity and location. The young person from Gelligaer is no stranger to the camera as she has participated in film projects in the past. The young person therefore chose to be in the acting group and proved to be a star in the making through making her character on paper really come to life on the set.
The climax to the project took place in during the May half term when all the filming took place in different locations around Blackwood and Pontllanfraith. The film was based on the concept of youth gangs and the clashing of different youth sub cultures. However, despite this being the storyline of the film, the reality was that there were young people from different youth subcultures and circles of friends all working together to produce the film. Therefore the success of the project was not only a short film being produced, but prejudices of other young people were challenged. The young people in the project will have the opportunity to attend a premiere for the film they produced in September.
